POSTPONED - Greater Shepparton women encouraged to get active for ‘This Girl Can’

Due to the current COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation in Victoria, VicHealth has postponed our This Girl Can Week 2020 until further notice.

Based on the most up-to-date health and safety advice from the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), we believe postponing our upcoming events is the most responsible option.

The continued health and wellbeing of Victorians is, as always, our absolute priority and we recognise the need to minimise close contact with other people and help slow the spread of the virus.

We want to support Victorian women through the This Girl Can – Victoria campaign as best we can in these changing circumstances. Where possible, we are exploring other ways of delivering some activities, such as via digital channels.

We appreciate how much work our supporters have put into preparing for this week and thank you for your enthusiasm.

VicHealth will continue to monitor the situation and let you know when a new date for This Girl Can Week is confirmed.

We will also share any other updates through our social media channels on Facebook and Twitter.

The current situation in Victoria presents new challenges for our communities. Our teams are also thinking proactively about how we can best support Victorians, particularlythose most vulnerable, to keep living healthy lives. If you have any ideas to share with us, please get in touch.

‘This Girl Can’

Women in Greater Shepparton are encouraged to get active as part of VicHealth’s ‘This Girl Can’ Campaign.

The goal of the campaign is for Victorian women to empower each other to feel comfortable in their bodies and in public spaces – regardless of their ability, how they look or how sweaty they get. ‘This Girl Can’ has had real success in building a supportive community of women who encourage each other to get out there and get active.

Greater Shepparton City Council is proud to work with VicHealth during the ‘This Girl Can’ campaign, to encourage local women and girls to smash the stereotypes holding them back from getting active and have a go.

There are a range of fun and inclusive activities at Aquamoves including women’s only swimming, free activities in parks and reserves as part of Council’s Activities in the Park program. Come and try women's only activities and a sports expo that will help women take that first and often daunting step to being active.

‘This Girl Can’ is about empowering everyday women to get active in their local community without feeling judged. We want all women – no matter how sweaty they get, how red their face is or how good they are – to feel comfortable about getting out there and giving physical activity a go. That’s what ‘This Girl Can’ is all about.

We want Greater Shepparton women to know that we get it. Rocking up to a gym class or training session is tough when you don’t know what to expect. That’s why the activities during ‘This Girl Can’ Week are inclusive, non-judgemental and accessible for women of different ages, body shapes and abilities.

Women wanting to get involved can visit thisgirlcan.com.au. To find out what activities and events are happening in their local area, download a copy of the This Girl Can brochure below, visit the Get Mooving Greater Shepparton Facebook page or download the free Get Mooving App.
